Hello . . . and welcome to my new place in the internet world. As my title suggest, I plan on talking about my past and current experiences with the Paleo Lifestyle.
A little over 2 years ago, following my 71st birthday, I decided it was about time to do something about my health. I did not have any critical health issues but I was way over weight at 315 pounds on my 5 foot 10 inch frame. It was to much sitting in front of the TV and to many fast food dinners. Something had to change and change for the positive.
I began by reading what I could find on line about various diets. Like most everyone I had tried just about all diet plans at one time or another during my life. Most of which was spent over weight except during the 70's and early 80's. When looking back at those times, it was a very active lifestyle that kept my weight under control. Young kids and work that required me to be active seemed like the key to getting back to a reasonable weight.
Of course now at this age the activity level is more difficult to achieve. I decided to get myself primed to begin on January 1, 2016 with daily walks and a complete change in my eating.
I began my Paleo Lifestyle by cleaning out all the bad food products from cupboards and refrigerator. For the first 30 days I counted every calorie and tracked all my food through My Fitness Pal dot com. They are not a Paleo site, but it fit my needs better than others which I had researched. I will talk about their site in a future article.
So now it is time to catch you up to today. Two years later and I am at 220 pounds. I had been down to 214 back in July, but then decided to move across town and began to stress about buying a new place and selling our old house. Even though I continued the exercising and eating habits that had removed the 100 pounds the stress seemed to just stop the weight loss and added a few more back.
That brings us up to today 2/15/2018 and the beginning of my Paleo Reset plan and the decision to keep this journal.
At this morning weigh in, 220 pounds. I am not going to list every piece of food that I eat, but I will enter the basic stuff to give you an idea about what I am eating everyday.
Today's Breakfast was what I like to call my Salmon Eggs Benedict. It consist of 3 oz of cooked Steelhead Salmon with two poached egg whites and 3 oz of an Avocado Verde sauce that I make in a food processor. To make the sauce, I take two small avocados and juice from one lime and add any brand of Verde sauce that does not contain sugar. I puree it to a consistency similar to a Hollandaise sauce. You can save your left over sauce in a sealed container in the refrigerator for 4 or 5 days.
